# Plans and Quotas

> What each plan gives you, how the free counter works, and what you see when it runs out.

Pick a plan, see how many questions it gives you, and check what you have left. Every question you ask Shumi uses one question from your plan.

## How the free counter works

A free account starts with 10 questions. They never refill. When they are gone you get 1 question per day, and the day resets at 00:00 UTC.

On the web you can ask one question with no account, on each device. After that the page asks you to sign in. Email or a crypto wallet both work.

On the free plan, every data call from the terminal, the API or an AI agent takes one question from the same counter. `shumi billing tier` never counts.

## What you see when you run out

| Terminal, API, AI agent | The call answers `402 Payment Required` with an offer to pay for that one call in USDC. Live streams (`shumi watch`) run while you have questions left. Once the quota is spent they answer `429 RATE_LIMITED` instead, and a stream cannot be paid per call. |

## Check your plan

Over the API, call `GET https://api.shumi.ai/api/cli/billing/tier` with your Bearer token. The call is free and works when your quota is spent.

In `data`, `tier` is your plan (Plus shows as `access`), `source` is how you got it, and `expiresAt` is when it ends. `null` means no end date.

## Pay per call

No subscription needed. Fund a wallet with USDC on Base (`shumi wallet create`, then `shumi wallet fund`) and each call pays for itself: 0.005 USDC for a data call, 0.05 for a plain-word question, `pairs` or `walkforward`. A call that fails on our side is not charged. `--auto-pay` pays without a prompt, up to \$0.10 per call by default. [Pay Per Call](/agents/payments) has the price table and the wallet setup.
